A new chapter for the shop

More possibilities.
A smaller footprint.

Jim is bringing four decades of custom building and woodworking experience to small homes and accessory dwelling units. The starting point is simple: what do you need the space to do?

01 / Family

Keep family close.

Explore a separate place for a parent, an adult child, or someone you care for, with room for independence.

02 / Everyday living

Make room for less.

A smaller primary home or a place to downsize, shaped around how you want to live.

03 / Your property

Think through the potential.

Consider an additional dwelling or long-term rental, starting with the property, local requirements, and the full project budget.

Your property comes first. Site access, utilities, approvals, design, and construction all affect what is possible. Plans, pricing, and the building approach are developed for each project.

Meet the builder

Jim Liebel.
A lifetime in the work.

Forty years building homes, kitchens, and the woodwork that makes a place feel personal.

Based in Bloomfield, New York, Jim's work spans timber-frame interiors, Arts & Crafts millwork, cabinetry, furniture, and custom homes across Rochester and the Finger Lakes.

Small homes and ADUs are the next chapter. His ambition is to bring that same attention to a home with a smaller footprint, while building the team and process to support it.

Tell Jim what you have in mind

Start with a clear next step

From an idea
to an informed decision.

You do not need finished plans to start a conversation. A location, a rough goal, and an honest sense of your budget give us something useful to discuss.

  1. 01

    Share the basics.

Tell us where the property is, what you want to build, and when you would like to begin.

  2. 02

    Talk through the fit.

Discuss your goals with Jim and identify the site, design, or approval questions that need answers.

  3. 03

    Define the next phase.

If the project is a fit, agree on the scope, responsibilities, and any paid planning work before moving forward.

Before we talk.

What is an ADU?

An accessory dwelling unit is an additional, independent home on a property with a primary residence. People often consider one for family or a long-term rental. The right option depends on the property and local requirements.

Can I build one on my property?

That needs a property-specific review. Start with the town or ZIP code, whether you own the property, and anything you know about access and utilities. An initial conversation does not confirm buildability or permit eligibility.

How much will a small home cost?

A useful estimate needs a defined home and site. Beyond construction, the budget may include design, permits, site work, foundations, utility connections, and contingency. Jim is not publishing standard model prices at this stage.

Are there finished ADU models to see?

The photographs here show Jim's custom-home and woodworking portfolio. The small-home and ADU offering is being developed. Ask Jim about the current scope, building approach, and availability for your project.

Do you still take custom-home and woodworking projects?

Those are part of Jim's work. Use the project form to describe a custom home, kitchen, cabinetry, millwork, or restoration project and discuss current availability.
